Community murals: urban art made with the neighbourhood
A community mural is a work where residents are co-authors, not spectators. We design participatory processes — workshops, open sessions, painting days — so that neighbours decide what the walls of their neighbourhood say, and a professional artist gives shape to that collective voice. We have done it in more than 200 municipalities.

What makes a mural “community”
It is not a mural painted in a neighbourhood: it is a mural decided by the neighbourhood. That changes the process, the timeline and the result.
Residents decide
Open sessions, interviews and workshops to gather what the neighbourhood wants to say: memory, identity, demands.
An artist who listens
We choose muralists experienced in participatory processes, able to turn many voices into a single image.
Painted together
Painting days with residents, schools and associations: the mural stays in the neighbourhood because the neighbourhood made it.
Rooted and lasting
Outdoor materials, permits and planned maintenance: works that last for years and that nobody wants to cover up.
All community murals
The complete collection, newest first. Each entry has the photos, the artist and the context of the project.
How we produce a community mural
From the first meeting to the opening party, with a single point of contact.
Diagnosis and partners
We talk to the council, associations and schools to define the wall, the timeline and who takes part.
Participatory process
Workshops and open sessions where residents decide the theme and the symbols of the mural.
Design with the artist
The artist presents the proposal to the group and validates it with residents before painting.
Painting and opening
Collective painting days, professional finish, opening party and documentation.
Frequently asked questions about community murals
+How long does a community mural process take?
Between 4 and 10 weeks depending on the number of participatory sessions. The painting itself takes one to three weeks, with one or two days open to residents.
+Who can commission a community mural?
Councils, neighbourhood associations, schools, foundations and companies with social responsibility programmes. For the full service, see our community and participatory urban art page.
+Do participants need experience?
No. Sessions are designed for everyone: children, older people, people with disabilities. The artist adapts the techniques and each participant paints a part of the mural.
+How much does a community mural cost?
It depends on the wall size and the number of sessions. Most projects range between €5,000 and €45,000; we break it down in our price guide.
