Sant Andreu de la Barca

Felipe Pincel, a Chilean artist based in Barcelona, was one of the selected muralists at the KROMATIC Festival in Sant Andreu de la Barca. With an indigenist style and socially and politically engaged content, Pincel created a mural in the Montseny neighborhood that pays tribute to the migrant stories that have shaped the plural and diverse identity of the municipality.

The piece, titled Raíces en tránsito (Roots in Transit), depicts a Latin American Indigenous woman sitting with a baby in her arms and an older child by her side, leaning on suitcases. These symbolize not only physical displacement but also the cultural and emotional baggage that migrants carry with them when starting a new life. It is a moving portrait that honors the courage and resilience of so many families who have helped transform Sant Andreu de la Barca into an open and inclusive city.

In the artist’s words: “A mother, her children, and the suitcases that carry memory, history, and future. This is the migratory journey and the act of putting down roots, reflecting how new identities are born and grow between cultures.”
With this mural, Felipe Pincel pays homage to migrant families and to the richness of a diverse, living, and constantly evolving society.
