Taquen and the Symbolic Gesture of Mutual Support at KROMATIC
Sant Andreu de la Barca
Artist Taquen, originally from A Coruña and based in Madrid, has made his mark on the KROMATIC Festival with a mural that speaks of collectivity, tradition, and shared identity. His piece, located in Anselm Clavé Square, revolves around the world of castells — the human towers that are one of the most rooted symbols of Catalan culture.
Though it does not depict the full construction of a tower, the mural focuses on the powerful image of several interlaced hands, evoking the base —the pinya— that supports every collective structure. With this simple yet meaningful gesture, Taquen conveys a message of trust, coordination, and mutual support as essential pillars of any community.
The artist’s minimalist and delicate style relies on line work as the core element of the composition. This visual sensitivity serves a profound message: only together can we hold up and grow something greater than ourselves. The mural thus becomes a visual metaphor for collective effort and the shared commitment that drives both the castells… and communities.
