Sant Andreu de la Barca

Roc Blackblock, a Barcelona-based artist with a long-standing career in socially and historically engaged muralism, has been a key figure at the KROMATIC Festival in Sant Andreu de la Barca. His intervention was painted on a party wall near the city’s church and dives into the municipality’s past to bring collective memory to the surface through urban art.

With a documentary and evocative approach, the artist depicts an old structure that once allowed people to cross the Llobregat River, known as la Palanca—a wooden bridge that no longer exists but remains vivid in the city’s collective memory. In the mural, this bridge becomes a symbol of connection and territorial transformation.

With his signature aesthetic, rooted in chiaroscuro and narrative precision, Roc Blackblock revives this deeply rooted local image to put it in dialogue with the present. The mural emphasizes the value of community infrastructure and the importance of knowing and preserving local history. In his words: “The goal is to illustrate collective memory in order to recover it, reclaim it, and celebrate it.”
