Rebobinart and the Hospitalet City Council inaugurate a mural about the neighborhood’s popular culture
Hospitalet’s City Council, with the direction and production of the urban art producer Rebobinart, has unveiled a large-format mural located within the Comprehensive Plan Les Planes in the Florida Blocks of L’Hospitalet. It is not just an artistic expression, but a dialogue with the history and popular culture of the Florida neighborhood.
The Roma Community and the Florida Neighborhood
Historically, the Roma community has played a key role in the everyday life of the Florida Blocks, from contributing to the local economy to active participation in social mobilizations, especially during the 1970s, when the neighborhood was the scene of struggles for more inclusive and equitable social rights. Their capacity for resilience and adaptation has been a source of inspiration and has contributed to the neighborhood’s resilience.
Uriginal and His Artistic Approach
An artist who has managed to delve into the soul of the neighborhood and the Roma people, collecting the threads of the stories that have woven the history of the Florida Blocks. We encounter the figure of Camarón de la Isla, who brings a sense of transformation and reminds us how his tradition flows through time. With a vibrant and colorful style, he honors the history of singing, dancing, and art that has been passed from hand to hand, from voice to voice, from spirit to spirit. His work is inspired by the flamenco tradition as the backbone of a community narrative. Particularly notable is how Camarón has influenced the cultural identity of the Roma community in L’Hospitalet, serving as a bridge between generations.
The Artist’s Relationship with the Florida Blocks
Uriginal has not just painted a mural, but has made a true tribute to an important part of the Florida Blocks community. Beyond creating a mural, he has established personal ties with the residents of the neighborhood, weaving a network of relationships that reflect a true cultural and social dialogue. He has managed to integrate into the daily dynamics of the neighborhood, becoming another member of the community. This constant interaction between the artist and the neighbors has created a unique ecosystem where art becomes a tool for communication and integration, demonstrating its transformative capacity.
From Rebobinart, we have been working on an urban art project, under the title of Murmurs, born with the purpose of socially, culturally, and artistically revitalize the neighborhoods of Barcelona. Thus, it is conceived as a space for cultural creation and social dynamization that fosters dialogue between the arts, culture, and the local community.
We invite you to visit the Florida Blocks to contemplate these new works of muralism!
