Wallspot

In 2012, Murs Lliures (Free Walls) was founded and became the main system for managing legal walls in Barcelona. Over the last four years Murs Lliures has had 2,370 registered artists, 3% of whom are women and 40% tourists, 13 active walls and 3,862 art interventions with an average of 12 per day. Now the project is getting an update with Wallspot, a global platform that brings together the key protagonists in urban art: artists, photographers, arts managers, the public and government institutions.

The project, merging digital technology and urban art, finds its place firmly rooted in the smart city ideal, with an online platform, website and mobile app, which come together to efficiently manage the urban art phenomenon. What’s more, Wallspot is envisaged as a professional global community for sharing the work of artists, photographers and arts managers; an arts network where you can follow urban art around the world. The platform is designed to help promote artists’ and photographers’ careers by integrating a financial aid system where donations can be made to users to support their work. That’s why Wallspot will be at this year’s edition of Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, because it fills a social and cultural need through pioneering tech management.

Wallspot traverses borders to make an impact in countries and cities around the world, including Barcelona and Barberà del Vallès (Spain), Las Pinas City (Philippines), Gothenburg, Mölndal and Landvetter (Sweden) and Zurich (Switzerland). New spaces, cities and countries are steadily being incorporated into the system, making the project a global leading platform for urban art. With a new design, new features and a new global community, Wallspot is here to stay.
