La Mercè 2012 — three days of urban art in Plaça Catalunya

Rebobinart was one of the associations invited to the community showcase during La Mercè 2012 festivities. Over 3 days we brought colour to Plaça Catalunya with exhibitions by local urban artists. Two murals presided over the sound tower from day one, and artists took turns around the cube of our space, creating their pieces, which were then displayed in the centre of the square for the rest of the days. One side of this cube was set aside for workshops with children and young people.

The overall outcome was very positive, and it renewed our motivation to keep making art in the street. Once again, we showed that urban art in our city is of great quality, and we took the opportunity to keep calling for legal walls — where art isn’t penalised — in every neighbourhood of Barcelona.

The huge number of people who took an interest, both in the artists’ work and in having their children take part in our workshops, shows that the public isn’t afraid of art in the street and knows how to appreciate it regardless of the technique used.
