On September, the La Farinera del Clot Cultural Center hosted the talk on Mural Rights, a round table on copyright and plagiarism in the world of Urban Art.

The Intellectual Property Law protects the set of rights attributed to an author of an original work. Urban art, a discipline that has obtained exponential recognition in the art market, has often been a focus of debate in relation to authorship rights, since the Royal Decree does not specifically mention the works catalogued within the framework of this discipline. However, all original artistic creations are protected by this law and, therefore, it is important that artists and professionals in the sector are aware of this legal area that affects them.

This talk, then, was born with the aim of exposing how the Intellectual Property Law protects mural interventions, whether or not they are located in public space, and their creators. Through specific cases of copyright infringement, street artists Nuria Toll, Emily Eldridge and Tim Marsh shared their experience and the possible ways that creators can use to defend their rights.

The talk was moderated by the artist, teacher, and member of INDAGUE, Enric Font Company. It also had the participation of the lawyer and gallery owner Miquel Melendres, who explained the regulations of the Intellectual Property Law and how they apply in the specific case of urban art. Likewise, this collective debate also offered tools to the attendees to avoid future infringements of copyright.
