Color Tracks by BToy — Barcelona’s mobile street art gallery

Idea: Since its beginnings, urban art has been a way of addressing the casual passer-by from surfaces or places where art isn’t expected to be. A mobile gallery follows that same philosophy: going out to meet the viewer instead of waiting for them to come to a formal presentation of the works in one fixed place. The aim is to make a first impact on people passing by, prompting them to find out more about the new proposals in urban art happening in our city, and about the opportunities the project opens up.
Features: The gallery is made up of a fleet of trucks, each one carrying a piece of urban art for 6 months. This gives the artists a very high level of exposure for their work and draws the attention of up-and-coming urban artists who want to invest in quality and improve their technique. The project creates a new, innovative outlet for all the talent held by the urban artists of our cities. Beyond being paid for their work, they gain a much higher level of exposure than they would have on the walls or fixed spaces around the city.
Resources: Making this project happen requires funding to cover materials, artists and production. That’s why we’re inviting companies linked to the city, with a dynamic image and an interest in art, to sponsor the project. The sponsoring company positions itself as a brand that backs young people whose work produces quality art.
Objectives: The gallery was created as part of a series of projects launched in the city of Barcelona to promote quality urban art and help the city regain a reference position in this kind of art at a global level. Its founding aim is to create the conditions for urban artists to see their work recognised, and for the public to enjoy talent that, until now, had gone largely unappreciated.
www.colortracks.com — the Rebobinart art platform presents the project.
Colortrack, conceived as the world’s first mobile gallery. Using a fleet of delivery trucks circulating through the city, it brings urban art close to a huge number of people. It promotes the city’s top-quality artists, as well as artists from abroad, to support this emerging art form. On the web platform, photos of all the painted trucks go up, together with the brands that sponsored them. The gallery also has another innovative feature: the ability to track the artists’ works by GPS at any given moment. Each truck carries a location device that lets the most adventurous art lovers follow the works around the city. They can also be tracked through the mobile app, which also made it possible to integrate the map into the platform’s website. For the launch of this project, sponsored by Liquitex — the professional acrylic paint brand — we worked with urban artist B-Toy, who created the world’s first mobile artwork. Finally, we want to thank Jordi David, the owner of the truck that was painted, since without his participation this project would not have been possible.
