Museu de Granollers has hosted the exhibition by Mónica Rikić, “Artefactes”, where the artist reflects on the alteration of traditional art relations, revealing the influence of the use of new technologies in the way we have to experience art and life. On it, the content of the works is as important as the technological container that supports them. The same happens with the artist-public-work relationship, which is liquid and mutable. This exhibition is part of the Womart project, an initiative of Rebobinart that aims to reclaim the need to recognize and make more visible the female talent in the visual arts and promote gender equality in all artistic visual disciplines. The realization of this mural has been promoted by the Xarxa Transversal with the support of the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

In the video, Galician artist Lula Goce painting her mural for the WOMART project in Vilanova i la Geltrú. She talks about the effort it took to get there in a predominantly male market, and why she does not want to steer the viewer: «it is part of urban art that whoever sees it draws their own conclusion».

I have come to Vilanova i la Geltrú. I'm a Galician artist and I'm delighted to be here; I've had a great time and I think the project is wonderful.

As a woman artist, I think I have had to work very hard to be here now painting this mural. The market is predominantly male, so it is sometimes hard to get a foot in, and I have run into many situations where there is a certain degree of discrimination. They are really mental patterns we have to break, and this is a very good way of doing it.

With every mural a direct coexistence is set up in the street, with all the people who work or walk past the piece every day. I don't like steering the person who is looking at the work: if I explain my thinking, I steer them and I distract them. And I think it is part of urban art that whoever sees it draws their own conclusion.

I hope you come by Vilanova to meet us. See you!
