La Màquina

On Saturday 2 February 2019 La Màquina opened its doors: a cultural space set up by the La Maquinista shopping centre and Unibail-Rodamco, in collaboration with Globus Vermell, Mediaurban and Rebobinart. The centre aims to offer residents and neighbourhoods a new open, diverse and participative space to develop and share the identity, people, ongoing projects and history of the area.
For the opening, Rebobinart produced several urban interventions: a red carpet by the artist Octavi Serra covering the temporary bridge that links La Maquinista with the Sant Andreu neighbourhood, and a live mural by Amaia Arrazola on the façade of the cultural centre. These actions marked the start of La Màquina’s activity and invited local residents to discover the new community space.
La Màquina is meant to be a meeting point for neighbours and a driver of new local projects, giving room to initiatives from neighbourhood organisations, associations and businesses, since both the shopping centre and the participating groups had identified a lack of spaces for local organisations. The space has already launched its first historical and social route through Bon Pastor, Baró de Viver and Sant Andreu de Palomar, and hosts an exhibition on the urban transformation of the area. It also plans a monthly programme of urban-themed activities, family workshops, urban art actions and guided walks.
