Mural painting Anna Taratiel, WALL LAB festival Barcelona

2019 is kicking off with the second edition of Wall Lab, in which Tim Marsh has taken part to create a large mural on the outdoor walls of Alfasoni, a music company located in Clot neighbourhood (Barcelona).

Tim Marsh was selected by Wallspot to participate in Wall Lab and he has transformed with his unique style the big grey walls into a bright and colourful mural that catches the eye. As a result, the building stands out from the urban landscape and brings new life to the street.

Wall Lab is progressing and bringing new opportunities for artists to professionally promote their work.

In the video, French artist Tim Marsh talks about his technique —very colourful, geometric, with pop-culture references and late-1980s patterns— and about his wall for the Wall Lab project: the longest he has ever painted. «Barcelona has become an essential stop for anyone who paints.»

What inspires me to create? A bit of everything: life in general, the people I meet, the films I see, the series, everything from everyday life, everything my artist friends do.

The technique is very colourful, very geometric, with a lot of pop-culture references, a lot of references to cartoons with animals, to patterns like this one, for example, which can call to mind patterns from the end of the eighties. I try to carry that over onto walls and onto canvases.

Barcelona has become an essential stop for anyone who paints, whether in the street, in a gallery, or pretty much anywhere. The graffiti scene here is very, very good: it was fairly obvious, for me, to come here. It was much easier to meet lots of people, to set up collaborations with friends, to do walls together. And I'm still fairly close to France, to home.

My experience with the Wall Lab project went very well. I loved being able to take part in creating a wall this big and one that is going to last so long, we hope. I think it is the longest wall I have done in my life so far. It taught me a huge amount about colour fills, about technique in general, about being able to think of other things for later projects.

Of course it is a stroke of luck that projects like this exist. People who paint in the street would love to be able to have projects like this one, where you are allowed to live, to express yourself, to have a wall that is going to stay: that is all muralists ask for. And I am extremely lucky to have done it, I am well aware of that. I hope to do others, because projects like this one are simply perfect projects. Thank you, Wall Lab. Thank you very much, Wall Lab: it was cool.
