Urban art Barcelona PichiAvo, mural painting, Rebobinart

23.09.2019

During the months of July and October, Rebobinart has been managing the creation of several PichiAvo murals in  Livensa Living Barcelona Diagonal Alto.

The project has been divided into two phases. The first has been to paint a 25m high mural on the facade of the building where you can see the figure of Athena. With the presence of the Greek goddess PichiAvo wanted to speak out about women empowerment and show her as a protective figure for the students who live in this residence in Esplugues de Llobregat (Barcelona).

In the second phase the artists have intervened in two areas. On the roof they painted the figure of Poseidon seen from various angles. From this area of the building you can see the sea, and that is why it was chosen to represent Poseidon, the Greek god of the seas.

The last intervention was made on the main scales of the residence, with a combination of background with graffiti, which include identifying words of the project, thus serving as a link between the interventions outside and inside the residence.

The Livensa Living Barcelona residence is part of the group of eleven residences designed by the architect José Quintela for Temprano Capital Partners, all of them thought to include large works of local urban art. With the intervention of PichiAvo in this residence, they wanted to convey a series of symbols, valuesand essential concepts for our society and for the students who will live there.

In the video, the curators and the artist explain PichiAvo's mural: they were looking for an artist who had never worked in Catalonia, and the figure chosen is Pallas Athena —an allusion to struggle, power and wisdom, and one of the standards of womanhood— at a student residence.

In all the projects we are doing in Portugal and Spain we are going to try to build in an element of urban art as a hallmark of ours, of our products.

In curating it we thought about looking for an artist who had never worked in Catalonia. And PichiAvo, given their track record and the impact they were having, seemed to us an interesting choice as the first artist we produced on this project.

Working outdoors there are many factors that end up influencing the work, and so it is an artistic challenge, and a personal one, as to how you are going to develop that project.

With Pallas Athena we wanted to convey that allusion to struggle, to power, to wisdom, because Athena is always associated as one of the standards of womanhood too, and we believe that in the times we are living in that matters. There is an element of learning in it too, of the message of the art itself and the values it conveys, in keeping with its use as a student residence.
