Udatxo – The Women of Trinitat

Nou Barris, Barcelona / December 2025

A mural by Udatxo that places the women of Trinitat Nova at its centre, recognising their fundamental role in everyday life, memory and the construction of the neighbourhood.

The artist: Udatxo

Udatxo is a painter from Azkoitia who works between mural painting and studio practice, developing a distinctive language that combines painting, collage and transfer techniques. Her work focuses on the urban environment and on capturing everyday street scenes, using photographs that she later transforms through light, colour and pictorial composition.

Her works seek to preserve a close, everyday spirit, focusing on gestures, gazes and situations that are part of daily life, often featuring women as protagonists. Through this process, Udatxo creates images that connect memory, presence and identity, with a sensitive and respectful approach to the context in which she intervenes.

She has exhibited and produced murals in cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Irun, Miami and Berlin, consolidating a career that constantly moves between public space and contemporary urban experience.

The artwork: “The Women of Trinitat”

Location: Carrer d’Aiguablava, 7, Trinitat Nova, Nou Barris, Barcelona.

The mural The Women of Trinitat is inspired by the figure of Matilde Climent and seeks to acknowledge the strength of the women who have built Trinitat Nova over time. Matilde Climent, a social worker active in the 1960s and 1970s, led key community initiatives in the neighbourhood, helping to improve living conditions and to give women a voice within neighbourhood struggles. Her long-standing commitment to the community made her a reference for social transformation and female empowerment in Nou Barris.

Building on this legacy, Udatxo creates a work that highlights collective memory, the often invisible labour of many women, and the central role they have played in shaping the social and human fabric of the neighbourhood.

Through her pictorial language based on painting and collage, Udatxo constructs an image that connects past and present, evoking recognisable everyday scenes and reinforcing the neighbourhood’s living memory. The mural integrates into the urban environment as a space of recognition and dignity, establishing a direct dialogue with local residents and with those who pass by it every day.

The intervention turns the wall into a site of collective representation, where everyday life, identity and female memory become the protagonists of Trinitat Nova’s visual narrative.

NOU Sentit Urbà: urban art in the Nou Barris distric

This intervention is part of the 18 artistic actions of the NOU Sentit Urbà project, promoted by Barcelona City Council and produced by Rebobinart, with the collaboration of the Nou Barris District and local neighborhood communities.
The project recovers collective memories and local identities through murals, installations, and participatory processes, addressing themes such as older age, sustainability, migration, neighborhood women, vernacular architecture, or sport as a force for cohesion. Each intervention adds a piece to Nou Barris’ shared story, reinforcing the value of memory and the role of urban art as a tool for social transformation.
