Rebobinart held a participatory workshop on street art with a group of young people from the Centre Cívic Casa Sagnier, in the Sant Gervasi district (Barcelona). Artists: Aram Rah, ONCE and El Xupet Negre

In the video, the graffiti workshop at Casa Sagnier and, above all, something new: it is the first time a manager outside Rebobinart runs a wall within their own premises. The district, the centre's staff and the young people all speak: «being able to paint here at the Brusi, where we spend a good part of our time, is great».

The centreWhat this graffiti workshop is after is a space in the neighbourhood where young people can express their art legally. The experience matters because it is the first time a manager outside Rebobinart will be running a wall: we need to see how they run these spaces within their own premises.

The young peopleI thought it was a really interesting idea, because I love doing graffiti and I really like drawing. And being able to paint here at the Brusi, where we spend a good part of our time, is great.

It was pretty complete. The idea was a good one: making the most of the rap-against-racism event, being able to do a graffiti here and having them teach us a bit about graffiti in the workshop. It helped a lot, above all, with the idea of what to base our graffiti on.

The centreI also think it matters that families see that graffiti can be used to do something where you are taken seriously, where you can get trained; and that on top of that you turn a place that was dead, or had no function other than being a wall, into a space for showing art.

The districtI think it is a very interesting experience: backing civic centres to run walls and gain places where they can show themselves. They won't only use this space in the ordinary way, with park users painting on it: they can also put on extra activities, display messages or decorate it according to the month's theme.
