This morning, as part of BizBarcelona, Barcelona City Council’s Councillor for Employment, Business and Tourism, Agustí Colom, presented the 1st Social Entrepreneurship Award, recognising the three best business initiatives with social impact among participants in the first edition of a business-creation programme run by Barcelona Activa.

The Councillor for Employment, Business and Tourism, Agustí Colom, highlighted that “these social entrepreneurship initiatives are a sign of non-conformity in the face of the current situation” and stated that “at Barcelona Activa, with this award, we want to support, encourage and raise awareness of initiatives that help respond to social inequalities.” Colom noted that Barcelona has traditionally had a committed network of associations and businesses, and highlighted how “this genuine network, together with these initiatives, joins forces with public action to correct situations that undermine democratic and human rights.”

“Barcelona is going through a situation of social and economic fragmentation, of inequality, with unbearable levels of unemployment and poverty. The other side of the coin is that, far from resignation, civil society is non-conformist and is promoting social entrepreneurship models to correct this undesirable social framework” — models that help “make Barcelona a kinder, fairer and more democratic city.”

Rebobinart, the winner of the award, received funding of 12,000 euros to help get the project up and running. It will also get a free six-month stay at Impact Hub Barcelona, a social innovation space.

Rebobinart carries out social intervention projects and programmes from an artistic angle, adapting to the social reality of each place. It manages public spaces dedicated to urban art, acting as a mediator between local administration, residents and urban artists. The goal is to democratise art and give new meaning to the phenomenon of graffiti through actions with a social and cultural dimension.
