CASA NOSTRA EN DATOS · Valencia

In Valencia, the landlord rules.

In 2025, 82 in 100 evictions in Valencia were for unpaid rent: 349 of 427.

Javirroyo draws it with humour. The data isn’t funny at all.

20 %

of everything raised on Verkami goes to the Sindicat de Llogateres (Barcelona Tenants’ Union), which defends people who rent. Every book is also a contribution to that fight.

14 years

Someone who saves 20 % of what they earn would need 14 years to put together the deposit for a 70 m² flat in Valencia. With taxes, the deposit comes to about €60,000: 30 % of a €201,000 flat. We assume they earn €21,350 net a year, a typical income in the city. After that, they would still have to pay a mortgage of about €750 a month.

One wall wasn’t enough.

A year ago we invited Javirroyo to paint this wall in Barcelona, which is a house. He chose to talk about housing and made more than forty cartoons and five mural proposals. He painted one: a vulture flying off with a house and a crowd of people running after it. You can see it from Avinguda Meridiana.

The rest go into the book CASA NOSTRA. And since the drawings seemed exaggerated, we went looking for these figures.
