Wall Lab’s latest edition was held during the month of  June, and from Rebobinart we have been in charge of the production of this project.

Wall Lab is a Wallspot programme aimed at artistic experimentation in public spaces and the creation of long-lasting murals. The participating artists of this initiative are usually selected through an open call, but in this edition the selection has been made through a contest. During the lockdown period, Wallspot launched a contest via Instagram, open to all artists who are part of the platform. To participate, they had to submit a mural sketch along with the hashtag #WallspotEnCasa, and finally, from all the participants, Wallspot and Rebobinart selected three winning artists.

The artist Boreno Modofoker was one of the winners of the contest, so his sketch was turned into a 6×3 meter mural.

Maikol de Sousa, better known as Borneo Modofoker was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He studied graphic design, but it was not until 2008 that he decided to leave his comfort zone to start his career as an urban artist. Over the time, he has acquired a great mastery in the urban art field, something that can be seen when observing his latest work for Wall Lab. With this piece, the artist wanted to reflect his inner world in a more abstract way. The fusion of colors, textures and shapes reflect upon the deepest and most intimate part of the artist.

Rebobinart, in addition to being in charge of the project’s production, provided the participants with all the necessary materials to perform their artwork as well as an artistic fee and a video interview along with a photographic compilation to promote the work of these artists.

In the video, Borneo Modofoker, a Venezuelan artist based in Barcelona, explains his Wall Lab wall, which will last around a year. He came across Wallspot's walls on his second day in the city, invited by a friend. He aims for «a positive impact on the viewer through shapes, colours and patterns».

My name is Borneo Modofoker, I'm a Venezuelan artist and I currently live in Barcelona. I'm very happy to have been able to take part in this Wallspot initiative called Wall Lab, where I had the chance to produce a mural with my work, which will last roughly a year. My work is an extension of who I am, and what I try to generate with it is a positive impact on the viewer through the use of shapes, colours and patterns.

I arrived in Barcelona three years ago and my second day here was my first encounter with Wallspot's walls, thanks to a friend's invitation. That was the day I learnt how free walls worked. All this coordination Wallspot creates with the city offers artists, or anyone who wants to start out in the world of urban art, a space where they can express their work.
