Castelldefels

The Escola-Treball in Castelldefels had a grey, unused party wall 15 metres high in its courtyard. In December 2017, the artist Penao turned it into an oasis: a natural landscape that fills the full height of the building, with a green creature-mountain, a village clinging to the cliffs and the sea with divers and an octopus.

The mural grew out of a participatory process with all the school’s students and the building’s neighbours, within a Castelldefels City Council project to renaturalise urban spaces and raise environmental awareness; Penao gave artistic shape to everyone’s contributions.
